Controlling what apps your users can install on iPad's & iPhones?

Can someone please offer some advice as Sophos support seem completely unwilling to assist?

How can I control what applications our users can install on our iOS devices? For example, I would like to disable the app store so users cannot install any applications other thatn the ones we authorise.

Sophos support have said that in order to push out applications remotely, then the app store has to be enabled. If this is the case, how can I control what the users install? Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks

  • Hi,

as far as I know you cannot block the App store. You cannot even prevent user from downloading Apps. What you can do is to add Apps to your Black or Whitelists.

Once uncompliant block Email Sync, Rest Password or even Wipe etc.

Not Possiblo for IOS. If i remember well ... maybe for Anderoid it is possible.

  • You are fully able to block access to the Apple Store using the Config utility and profiles, very easy to do. Then:

1 - If you have an in-house delevoped application, simply upload this to the Software Packages area and you are able to push it out to devices

2 - If you are using an App downloaded from the App store, upload the *.ipa file in the same manner, HOWEVER, the account you used to download the app MUST be the same as the one on the device, so not workable for BYOD.  This will be changed in v 3.0

If you use the Sophos Mobile App and sync with the SMC server, these Applications will appear on a list within that App allow the end use to chose which ones they install. As mentioned above, these apps can then also be listed within the compliance options.
