Updating to a SHA2 certificate

Need to update SMC 4.0.0.4 certificate from SHA1 to SHA2. What is the best way to push the new cert to devices?

I'm looking at creating a task to do this, but need some help creating one. I have apple and android devices.

  • Hi Nat-

I guess you are talking about the SSL certificate which is presented when you browse to the SMC web console.

The mobile devices do not hold informaiton about this certificate. You can simply update the certficiate by running the Configuration Wizard and this way put it into the SMC server.

There is no need to push it out to your devices.

  • Thanks Stefan,

I spoke to Sophos support who said that i will need to re-enroll the devices again with the new certificate?

Yep, I'm talking about the SSL certificate for the SMC webportal admin and ssp. I was just about to go ahead to update to SHA2 but they said it would also need to be pushed out to the exsisting enrolled devices.

    Many thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Nat,

this is definitely not necessary if you only renew the certificate!.

Re-enrolling would only be necessary if you change the URL of your SMC server or create and upload a completely new iOS APNS certificate.

    Best regards
