How to avoid users unchecking Device Admin for SMC in Android

Hi all,

Is there any way to avoid users unchecking Device Admin configuration for Control app in Android? I mean, SMC is a very good tool to control devices but whether it is possible that the users can uncheck Device Admin, they can uninstall the software, so... It is a bad bussiness.

Thanks for your help in advanced...

Carlos

  • Hi Carlos,

within the Android operating system there is no possibility by default to prevent the user to change the device administrator settings.

Using SMC you have two options to achieve this which both will disable the "Settings" app for the users:

    1. Send out an "App control" profile to the android device which denies access to the app "com.android.settings"
This works for all Android devices
    2. Send out a profile which sets the "Allow settings changes" restriction.
This restriction only works on Samsung SAFE capable devices.

In general, if a user disables the device administratior for the Sophos Mobile Control app, the device will be listed as "Unmanaged" in the SMC web console so you can react on that status. Furthermore, the device may lose email access depending on your compliance configuration.

    Best regards

    Stefan
