Do NOT Mark Messages as Read

I am using SMC on a Windows 8 Phone.  Can functionality be set to NOT mark messages as Read when simply scrolling thru and deleting junkmail from the Inbox?  Also... when deleting an Email, can functionality be set to move to the next msg below instead of above?  I suspect I am expecting too much from a mobile Email app.  Many thanks...
