Do I need Activesync?

Hello.

My firm is moving away from Blackberry and it's Enterprise Manager and I have to find an alternative for Android devices. Blackberry Enterprise Manager simply installed on a server, you gave it permission to talk to the Exchange server (with no activesync) and away you went. Easy. I'm investigating SMC and am wondering, do I need to roll out an activesync installation before using SMC to deliver email etc?

Many thanks in anticipation

  • Hi Gregg,

if you want to grant mail access via the Sophos Mobile Control EAS Proxy, an Exchange Server must exist in your environment having the ActiveSync role enabled. The SMC server then can connect to the /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync site and route all traffic between mail server and device.

    Best regards
