Encrypting Storage on Local devices

Hi Everyone.

I have managed to deploy sophos SMC on an IPAD and Windows phone and will also be deploying to an Android phone today.

I can see that the password policies and restrictions work ok, however I would like to ensure the storage on the phones are encypted incase they are lost or stolen.

Can someone advise how this is is possible with SMC.

Thanks

Karl Forster

  • On android device, only Samsung SAFE devices are supporting the encryption policies (without extra sophos encryption app).

Beside of this, i've some issues when deploying ActiveSync accounts on non-Samsung SAFE devices. Users with other phones need to configure their ActiveSync settings manually.

  • Hi karl12347,

iOS provides a hardware encryption by default. Please have a look at this PDF for further information:
    http://images.apple.com/ipad/business/docs/iOS_Security_Oct12.pdf

Therefore, there is no additional possibility to trigger the encryption of an iOS device.

For Android devices, you can activate the hardware encryption by sedning out a command bundle with the setting "androidSetStorageEncryption" and in addition for the user to do it by definining the compliance criteria to require hardware encryption.

  • Hi Nick_NL,

as of now, it is only possible to automatically configure Exchange Accounts on Samsung devices if they support the SAFE API.

On other devices, the mail account must be created manually as we currently do not have any possibilities to create them automatically.
However, this might change in future releases if we support other vendor specific APIs.

    Best regards
