Working as intended or an issue? New Sophos Central Mobile control setup and Apple DEP

I don't know if I'm having an issue or not. I have setup Apple DEP with Sophos Cloud Mobile as the MDM server.

Apple DEP sees any new phones we add, I'm expecting for the new phone to show up in Sophos and apply the deployment package I setup in the self service portal. But what is happening is, the phone isn't automatically showing up and I have to manually add and enroll the device. Also my apps are not installing because there isn't a AppleID assigned to the phone yet. I tried enrolling the iPhone using the without AppleID process, but the app didn't appear on the phone.

Also when I enroll a phone with an Appleid account and push apps to it, should it prompt on the phone that it's installing and make the user press "Manage"?

  • Hey Bryan,

What you are describing is normal behaviour. We run multiple Sophos Mobile and Mobileiron Dep deployments. Dep is just a referral to an MDM based on the device ID (UDID)/SN and offcourse the ability to Supervise OTA

The phone will only show up after it is booted and enrolled with a user account. The difference with a non dep device being that the registration is mandatory. There are some options to bulk enroll but i'm not sure SMC supports this .

I'll get back to you on the app installation part, it is true that apple needs an Apple ID even when supervices. But you can work around this by using VPP ( Device based ) with free apps. Perhaps you can check if it is supported .

    Hope this helps a bit.
