Sophos Mobile Control 5.1 - Install, Connection to SQL Server Failed

Hello,

I am trying to install Sophos Mobile Control 5.1 onto a Windows 2008 R2 server, the server already has Sophos Enterprise Console and SQL 2008 Express Installed. I have gotten to the SQL Database settings section of the install. However when I input the Database Server name (sophos)  and credentials and press OK I get the error:

"Connection error           The connection to the host ., named instance sophos has failed. Verify the server and instance names, check that no firewall is blocking UDP traffic to port 1434, and for SQL Server 2005 or later verify that the SQL Server Browser is running on the host"

I have checked that the server and instance names are correct, the firewall is off, SQL Server Browser is running, and credentials are correct.

  • Hi SteppedTea,

have you tried to specify the SQL instance when configuring the database (e.g. localhost/instancename)
Is the port mentioned opened via the SQL Server Configuration Manager?
Additionally, please be aware that it is not recommend to install SMC together with the Sophos Enterprise Console as this may cause performance issues.

    Best regards
    Stefan
