DHCP not working

In the last week or so I've had an issue where DHCP is not working.  I have Android and Windows clients and none can successfully get an IP.

I have open addressing, the demon is running.  If I kill it, it respawns.

This is all I ever see, different clients, but they all do the same.

I looked for a demon log, but didn't see anything in Var.

I deleted the DHCP config and did it over, no change.

Sophos version: 9.111-11

I think this started with a version update to 9.111-11.

Funny thing, I cannot find the DHCPD executable in /usr/sbin and cannot find the conf file in etc even though ps-aux shows that is where they are running from.

Any suggestions?

    Hi, les_garten, and welcome to the User BB!

    Have you tried a reboot?  If that doesn't work, try a config restore from a backup prior to the problem.  Any luck?

       Tried a reboot and a config restore from before.  I thing It's the FW.  Coincides with the up2date update.

    Is there a way to force updates?

    I have already deleted the dhcp scopes in webadmin and replaced them to no avail.

    I think I'd run diagnostics on the hardware and consider installing from ISO - this just isn't an issue that's reported by others.

    Found the problem!

    So last night I continued to look for dragons to slay on this problem.  It was driving me absolutely crazy.  I also wanted to update to 9.2.  I couldn't figure how to make an update happen or figure out why updates weren't happening.  I was on 9.111-11.

    So I DL'd the ISO and whacked everything.  Reinstalled with 9.2, restored a config, and bang!  Guess what still have the problem!

    I even had switched NIC's in the FW when I did the install.

    So now I'm eyeing the last thing It could be, my Switch.

    I had updated the Firmware in the switch about the same time this started happening.  So I scoured through the Netgear smartswitch and everything "appeared" correct.

    I found a very slightly updated FW for the switch and flashed it.

    Still have the problem.  Hmmmm, getting Mo' ticked off  by the second.

    So I put a Hub in place of the switch, problem GONE!

    Put the switch back, problems back.

    So now with the proper Google search tags, resolution is at hand immediately.  It was a setting in the switch to filter DHCP!!

    This switch Interface is in Chingrish and it has been difficult at times to understand how they label things and that's what got me.  The switch interface is terrible.

    So  there we go, not a Sophos problem at all.

    The config file is /var/chroot-dhcps/etc/dhcpd.conf not in /etc/

    I'd like to know more about the switch:

    What is the model and firmware versions of the switch?
    How is/was the switch dhcp filtering feature labeled?
    Did something with the switch change at the same time you made the move to 9.111-11?

    The switch reconfiguration was my fault but I see how I was going through it quickly and didn't pay attention to how it was laid out.

    It is a Netgear GS724T v3

    Lifetime warranty, great deal on a switch, about $200.  even has spots for GBICs.  I got hit by lightening and they just cross shipped me a new one after 3 years.

    The timing was that the FW update was about the same time that  the switch FW upgrade was and the now apparent reconfiguration was.  Took a while for the DHCP issue to rear it's ugly head because I leave all my computers, tablets, etc running all the time.   So took a few weeks for me to say WTF is going on here.  During the troubleshooting I had gazed back over the switch but still didn't see the DHCP filtering.  I'm getting older, blinder, and lazier as a near the later 3rd of life it seems...

    Here is the screenshot of the switch config page.  If you are jsut looking at the center panal, this doesn't look like a filtering page at first.  It looks like you are enabling a smewhat ubiquitous admin mode.

    The switch interface on the netgear is kludgy, slow, and poorly laid out IME.  But this was still my error.
