Won't connect to PPPoE

I just installed v7.100 on a dual Pentium 3 2.4ghz server with dual built in Intel NIC's.  Install went good, i log on to webadmin to find out the Internet connection is not connecting.  I have tried many things like messing with the duplex and deleting and recreating the connection but nothing has seem to work.  

The log claims that the network is down.  One time I did get it to atleast attempt to connect but it kept saying that my credentials were bad, which i tried typing in 3 different time to ensure accuracy, and timed out.

I am going to try reverting back to v6 if this persists.

    Make sure the MTU of the PPPOE interface is 1492 ...
    Also make sure your DSL Modem / Router is in "Bridged" mode.

    I know this sounds a little bit stupid, but PPPoE did work for me for some days, maybe even some weeks in one piece. But somewhen after the daily disconnect of my provider Astaro wouldn't reconnect without at least bringing the network interface down and up again.

    What I did was the following:
    Use a stupid simple hardware router you usually get from your provider. Make that thing dial the internet connection and forward all incoming traffic to Astaro (via the DMZ function in the router; I know it is not a real dmz). Set up the internet connection in Astaro to Ethernet standard and config the hardware router as the gateway. At least in my case that significally enhanced the connection reliability and even reduced cpu usage by ~10%.

    Maybe that is a generally useful hint for some people here. I also noticed people asking for vdsl support. This way you can bypass that lack of functionality.
