Migration - VShield Manager VM?

Hi,

We're going to be migrating from Sophos for VShield to SVE.  The migration guidance is clear about what to do regarding the SSVMs and Guest Agents but makes no mention of the VMware "VShield Manager" virtual machine.  Do we shut this down?

Also, I was more than a little surprised to learn that the Guest Agent does not automatically talk to the SSVM on their own ESXi host, rather, having to be given the IP of a specific one - in that case, why deploy more than one, since it's a single point of failure for the entire VDI pool.  I hope this will be fixed in a future version soon.  I'm sure it's not an oversight, more of a "would have been nice to have in v1 but not critical"...!

    vShield Manager can be removed, please do make sure it is not used by anything else such as:  vShield Edge, vShield Zones, vShield App, vShield Data Security & vShield Endpoint

    SVE 1.2 will have failover so a GVM can connect to another SVM if the original one is unavailable. This is currently in planning so i don't have final dates for you. 

    Are you going to manage via SEC/Central? 
    What is your migration timeframe?

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks for your rapid response.  We've nothing else using it so looks as though we can turn it off once all the old SSVMs are removed.

    We're using SEC and will be doing the upgrade in about three weeks.  We need the VDI upgrading away from VShield so we can upgrade SEC to a newer version that supports the Exploit Prevention component of the Endpoint Protection that our non-virtual kit uses.

    Yes turn you can turn off once all is migrated.

    You can install the new Sophos for Virtual SVM on the same host and migrate the GVMs over in chucks if its easier. When you have got a few migrated over then you can use AD to do the rest. Its very flexible.
