Files having the same filename but different file extension and the other extensions is an .EXE file

I am encountering files having the same filename but different file extensions and the other extensions is an EXE file in our Shared Drive. Sophos detects the EXE file as W32/MPhage-A and its cleanable but there are other files detected as W32/MPhage-A but it's not cleanable. Can I safely delete those files which are considered as Not cleanable

  • Hello Michael Babao,

the W32/ prefix suggests that it's a PE infector. Did you look up the analysis? Apparently the disinfecting PE article no longer exists, so please refer to the general remove article.

    different file extensions
    which ones?
    Can I safely delete
if from the extensions they are not executables like .exe or .dll but according to the detection they are - well, either they are deliberately "disguised" or some special application stores executables with arbitrary extensions. In the latter case you should be aware that you have such an application. Generally it's safe to delete "unknown" files in "unusual" locations especially if they are unsigned.

And, BTW, you should find out who put these files in a shared location.
