SOPHOS CLIENT ENDPOINT DEPLOYMENT

hi

We would like to know how to deploy the client executable (EXE) to a group of client computers collectively rather than on a
client -on client basis. This deployment would be from the central management console

Could you please provide us with technical guidance on this

thank you

Paul

  • Hello Paul,

the Central deployment methods article links to Sophos Central: Methods for automating the deployment ... with examples for AD/GPO and SCCM.
As said it's not possible from Central Admin - you wouldn't want that some service in the cloud can contact your computers and install software on them "from te Internet". Thus the initial is necessarily local. What particular method you use to run the script or the .exe is up to you.

  • Hi Christian

thanks again but there seems to be confusion with the nature of my request. We are looking to deploy the EXE per ENDPOINT group such as the MATHS or HUMANITIES department group within the Cloud Central console where nowhere in the Sophos online Technical guides does it mention these groups  .There is discussion of Group Policy but we want Sophos Console Groups on a departmental etc level to push the EXE to

I hope this makes more sense

  • Hello Paul,

I see. Do I now understand you correctly you have set up groups in Central Admin using AD synchronization? An now you want to protect the devices in these groups? Or where did these department groups come from?

    Christian

  • no we have created the  groups manually  on the central console and we want to send an EXE file manually to anyone , and specify the GROUP name as part of the deployment

  • Hello Paul,

thanks, it is very clear now.
I wasn't aware that you can now "pre-select" the group with the Central installer (like you can with the on-premise setup.exe) therefore I didn't think of this possibility. Ii seems this hasn't changed though as the article on SophosInstall.exe suggests. Perhaps @jak who is unlike me familiar with Central has something up his sleeves.

  • Thanks for that reply

There isn't such an option in the Sophos central to pre-select  the group name  with the central installer , which is why we have made this forum Posting . We just need guidance in how to specify the group name prior to deployment of the EXE
