SEC 5.5.0 Sum not updating all of a sudden?

Hello Louis-M,

it's one of the additional SUMs? Does it update from Sophos or from another SUM at your site?
Please make sure that its configuration is correct and that it can reach its source. Next I'd empty the (%ProgramData%\Sophos\Update Manager\Update Manager\)Warehouse, request an update, check whether the Warehouse gets populated,  and view the SUMTrace log(s).

Hi Christian,

no it's the original one. I cleared the warehouse file, forced an update and watched the folder populate but it still complains that an update manager hasn't updated since 31/5/17

I've never seen sumcf.bk, just sumcf.dat.old.
So sumcf.dat isn't in \catalogue\ - are the .xml files there? .dat files in the Warehouse? IIRC one possible cause is that a firewall intercepts the download. The request for the customer file is the first one during an update, using Wireshark you should see a GET /update/0/12/012xx....xx.dat (the filename and the pseudo-folders are probably derived from your credentials) and a 200 OK response should return the sumcf.dat.

There's not even a catalogue directory in there. There's a bunch of folders with GUID like no's with xml files within them.

There's also a pile of xml files in the root of warehouse with similar numbers to the above.

There are two other folders: we_config and StandaloneWindows

not even a filestore.dat in the \Warehouse\ root - AFAIK this list of Warehouse contents is locally created?
Anyway, the .dat files are the actual contents, guess you don't get them without the customer file (sumcf.dat). Tracing the request and response seems to be a good idea, dunno why SUM doesn't log all download errors.

fine. I'm the snoopy type and as the log obviously doesn't provide the info what happened with the sumcf.dat request I'd try to obtain the information by some other means - in this case Wireshark (fortunately the connection isn't HTTPS). You simply don't want to run it or you're not permitted to?

Well,

Sophos were taking a bit long so I did a restore for the warehouse folder from 2 weeks ago. I then forced an update and all the files updated.

The only issue I'm having now is "threat protection update failed". Software updates etc are working as normal.

I'd check the "run-in" of an updating cycle what it says about the customer file.
As usual the SUMTrace log should have the details for the error that caused the threat protection update failed.
