Ignoring Offline Files

I'm in the process of deploying a file server archiving technology that moves old files to another storage system and leaves a placeholder files as replacements.  The placeholder files are interpreted by Windows as "offline files".  According to the documentation for this product, we need to configure antivirus scanning policies on the file servers to "ignore offline files".  I've searched and can't find anything related to this option within Sophos.  Can someone advise what option I need to change to ignore offline files?  Thanks much.

  • Hello Matt,

I'm not aware of an option to ignore offline files.

As I see it there are actually two areas of concern:

    1. On-Access scanning: The scanner must allow and wait for the file to be recalled before doing the scan. Can't say if the filter driver handles this correctly
    2. On-demand and scheduled scans: The scanner should by default ignore "stub" files (so to not cause a recall during a scan). Assuming that on-access is enabled and dealing with migrated files correctly you wouldn't need an extra option then.

I haven't found any documentation on this though and I suggest you better contact Support. Please follow up with what you've found out.
