Endpoint - write to USB from application issue

We run into this issue every once in a while and yesterday ran into the issue again. When trying to write to a USB drive (user is in the exception group to allow full access) the application (EX: Word) doing a save as directly to the USB does not work. However if the user saves the files to a network location or locally and copy's and pastes the file to the USB drive it works.

With the testing I did, I disabled the device control locally on the client and ran into the same issue. While having that disabled, I disabled data control and I was then allowed to be able to write directly to the USB though an app.

Anyone else run into this issue?

  • Hello ScottHolm,

some details are missing but this doesn't sound like an issue but rather that it works like designed and documented.
If there is a Data Control policy active with a rule that has Allow on acceptance or Block as action and a storage device among the destinations then transfers (i.e. writes) to this device are only possible with Explorer. This is not related to Device Control.
