Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter connection failed

Hello,

I have a problem with connection between my lapotp and MS wireless display adapter. My laptop has up-to-date Intel CPU, wireless adapter and Windows 8.1.

When I try to connect to projector using MS wireless display adapter, it shows "...connecting" but failed. Wnen tested with my android phone, it worked, meaning it has no problem with adapter itself.

After googling, I found some article it could be related to firewall or antivirus software. So I deleted Sophos Endpoint, then worked.

What configuraiotn should I change on my Sophos Endpoint or Sophos Console to work it right?

Thanks

  • We tweaked the Sophos Firewall global rules to achieve this.

    Our rules:

    1. Allow IP (UDP and TCP) incoming and outgoing for the remote addresses 192.168.137.0 (255.255.255.0) and 192.168.173.0 (255.255.255.0)

    2. Allow UDP incoming and outgoing for the remote addresses 0.0.0.0, 224.0.0.252, 169.254.255.255 and the broadcast address of the (wifi) network you're using the miracast adapter (so when your wifi network is e.g. 10.1.1.0/24, your broadcast address is 10.1.1.255) and for the remote ports BOOTPC, NETBIOS_NS and 5355.

    That's it.

Maybe a bit late for you as an answer, but hopefully helps others coming across. Btw. we're using Sophos Enterprise Console and since I've made that addition to the global firewall rules in the corresponding firewall policies we we're able to use any miracast adapter and also could use the "Projecting to this PC" feature from Windows 10!

    Cheers!
