a0200006 Errors - What to do?

A number of ourPC's are reporting the above error in the console.  The error states that a folder doesn't exist, the folder in question is usually something like c:\system volume information\_restore{xxx...}\snapshot\repository\   (the {xxx...} bit varies from pc to pc)

The question is why is Sophos generating an error for a non existent folder?  It looks like a cosmetic error but there is nothing on the Sophos web site about it.  Has anyone else seen this?  If so are you doing anything about it?

  • Hello Wigsy,

restore points can be rather "short-lived". Can you give us an example of the complete message (preferably the corresponding part of the machine's SAV.txt)? Is there a scan running at the time of the error?

  • Here is an example from a log

    Outstanding alerts and errors

Sophos Anti-Virus status                                                             Date/time            Code      Description
                                                 10/11/2010 13:20:50  a0200006  The folder "C:\System Volume Information\_restore{29FD9B63-4F58-4DB0-B2C4-8709D5244F27}\RP2190\snapshot\" doesn't exist.

The daily scan is scheduled to run at 12:30 but I don't think it was running when this log was generated.

  • I daresay the job was running (50 minutes is within an acceptable duration) but we don't have to guess as a scan's start and stop are recorded in SAV.txt (just search for Scan 'name'). As the scan works by building lists of objects which are passed to the scanning threads it's no surprise that sometimes an object no longer exists when the scanner tries to process it.
