Windows 7 Home Premium and download speed.

With the combination of Sophos Antivirus version 9 and Windows 7 Home Premium there seems to be a problem with the download speed.

When the on-access scanning is enabled the download speed drops down significantly.

on-access scanning on: about 9 mb\sec.
on-access scanning off: about 4 mb\sec.

I’’’’ve tested on several 32x and 64 x systems with the same results. Also tried several exclusion options and different internet lines without success

Anyone else with this problem?

Kind regards,

Edwin

  • Hi,

I would expect this is down to the Sophos BHO and the way the site calculates the speeds in the embedded Java applet/Flash application.  The Sophos BHO buffers 2MB of content for a single resource request in order to scan it before letting it through.  I would suspect that the download test pulls a large file, so the BHO would skew the results.

If you use Chrome or Firefox for example or disable the Sophos BHO in IE, I would expect the same times?

    Regards,

    Jak
