Child SUM management

Hello,

we're doing some tests with the 9.5 version (console 4.5).

There's one server with the SQL database, RMS and SUM connected to internet.

Other SUM + RMS relay are created on other servers and retrieve packages update through the SUM parent. No management console on these ones.

Question : if the network fails between the SUM parent and SUM childs, how can we provide updates to clients ?

I tried to install a Management console on these servers but it can't and ask to remove the SUM first... Impossible... I'd like to know if it's possible to change the SUM (childs) properties to have as parent Internet...

Also, do the RMS messages sent by the clients to the RMS relay on these servers will be forwarded to the RMS server when the network will be up again ? Is there a limit to this ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

  • Hello Xt,

if the network fails between the SUM parent and SUM childs, how can we provide updates to clients?

You can configure a SUM to use more than one update source. Quoting from the Help:

You can select several sources. The first source in the list is the primary source. Additional sources in the list are optional alternate locations that the update manager uses if it cannot collect an update from the primary source.

You have to do this "in advance" as there is no interface other than SEC. Guess it is possible to keep an alternate config.xml to use "just in case" (but this is not an official option).

The messages are saved as *.msg files in the Envelopes folder (...\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Router\Envelopes\) so the file system is likely the limit. RMS will attempt to forward them once the connection is reestablished.
