Event Decode Unavailable (-1605238734)

I have been getting this error sporadically on a decent amount of of machines on the console every day:

Event Decode Unavailable (Event Number: "-1605238734" Message Code: "SAVXP.2689728562" Inserts: "IDE\DISKSAMSUNG_HD080HJ/P...."

It does not seem to be anything serious, and it's obviously related to the hard drive. The "inserts" section will change based on the hard disk vendor (for example "IDE\DISKxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

My first thought is that it's some sort of bug, but what is weird is that it seems to effect certain departments more than others. For instance in our Member Service Center, between 5 and 10 PC's there trigger this error daily, where as at some sites, we have have none. Other sites will randomly have 1 or 2 PC's that trigger this weekly.

Any thoughts?

  • RE: "between 5 and 10 PC's there trigger this error daily"

they all have the same hardware and is different from the other depts?

    RE: 'Other sites will randomly..."

  • Ok, I take that back. I just enabled a Device Control policy and I'm getting flooded with emails from EVERY workstation saying the same thing referring to the IDE drive in the machine.

A device control event occurred on machine xxxx when user XXXXXXXX\xxxxxx was logged on.

Device control failed to process device: deviceId=IDE\DISKSAMSUNG_HD080HJ/P_______________________ZH100-46\30534544314A4C47333837383931202020202020, errorCode=0x80070005.

I will either have to turn off email notification (which I don't want to do because I want to be alerted when someone plugs in a USB stick) or I will have to turn the entire policy off.

    Any answers Sophos?

    Thanks.
