I just thought my first post should be to try and help anyone else with a similar problem. I searched but could not find a solution, hence the post.
Just updating to latest SEC from the old V3 of EC before the end of March. We have a number of old but still useful PC's with NT4 that are infrequently used. Trying to get these to update was difficult I got these error 71, general communication errors. I found that using the IP address instead of server name when installing from the client end fixed the problem, but only temporarily. The solution I have now found and appears to work is to set up a Group for these NT PC's using a new modified updating policy that references the location to update from as the ip address not the UNC name. So far my NT PC's are updating fine.
I hope this helps someone else, I spent some time over the last couple of days figuring this one out. Maybe there is a more elegant technical solution but this one works for me.
