[Sophos ESC] Applications Control and quarantine zone

Hi there,

Info: Sophos ESC v 9.7 and Entreprise Console v 4.5.1

I would like to know if there is a way not to log applications control in the quarantine?

To explain myself, in my company, we made a rule that forbid use of certain applications as games,  tchat client as windows live... It works very well but on the Sophos client, those forbidden applications appear in the Quarantine.

So i repeat my question, is that possible to forbid applications but don't have them in the quarantine zone?

Because my users keep calling me because they have "viruses" in their quarantine zone...

Thanks for your answers!

Best regards.

  • Hello Nicolas,

what about educating your users and you have 100 characters for a custom pop up message :smileywink:? BTW: even though the policy editor doesn't say so you can include an URL in the pop up.

Seriously - your users should know about your policies in general and also have some basic knowledge of Sophos and the quarantine manager. They should know what it means if an application is blocked (and that they should avoid them in the future) and what to do if a virus is reported. Ar these applications which need sufficient rights to install or of the "portable" category?

True it doesn't make much sense to have them in the Quarantine Manager in a "stable" environment (QM just keeps the list of detected applications and offers no actions). But they are there because if you want to remove a controlled application from a client you have to do it locally and then having the list simplifies this.

  • Hello QC,

    Thanks for the reply,

In first time, i will educate my users about the using of Quarantine zone and forbidden applications. The custom pop up system of Sophos is great but in my case, i can't use it because it will pops too much pop up because i've forbidden lot of applications on my network.

As you said, i'm sure Sophos can do something about it in the future. Because in my mind, forbidden applications can't appear in Quarantine zone in a stable environment. We should have the choice to acknowledge this forbidden application in order not to see it any more in the Quarantine zone.

Anyway i will suggest it to the dev team because i am sure there is something to do about.

    Thanks.

    Best regards
