Cannot upgrade SEC 4.0 to 4.5 - SQL server valid but reporting incompatible error and failing

Hi there
I have upgraded NAC to 3.5 and SEC to 4.0 but cannot upgrade SEC from 4.0 to 4.5. The Upgrade Advisor erroneously reported an incompatible version of SQL Server even though its 2005 SP3 (as per KB article 110883). Details of the SQL Server instance are thus:

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express       9.00.5000.00
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)                  2000.086.3959.00 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)
Microsoft MSXML                                                                    2.6 3.0 4.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer                                                    6.0.3790.3959
Microsoft .NET Framework                                                   2.0.50727.3615
Operating System                                                                  5.2.3790

However the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.5 fails with an error message saying that the SQL Server instance is 2000 and hence incompatible, and needs to be upgraded, when it isn’’’’t and doesn’’’’t.
Is there anything I can do at this point? Like I said KB 110883 confirms it as a known issue but doesn't offer any suggestions to fixing it, just says to ignore the upgrade to the SQL Server.
Many thanks
