Is There a Permanent Cure for - You Do Not Have Sufficent Privileges

Hi

Having upgraded to 9.5 from 7.

I am not very happy with it. As approximately every 3 or 4 days I get the 'You Do Not Have Sufficent Privileges' error.

So far I have tried!

  1. http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/113207.html
  2. Reinstalling from scratch after uninstalling & using Sophos' purge programme.
  3. Even the links & suggestions from Open University IT pages http://mct.open.ac.uk/tbtknowl.nsf/0e36766f24334c4c80256554005a57dc/ffed1e8e32163612802571c70049fe5c?OpenDocument

They all work for 3 to 4 days then it happens ALL over again.

Thanks to the company licence I have used Sophos since the days of Win95 with no problems until now.

So is there a permanant fix?

I am using Windows XP Lite on an AMD dual core.  (Lite = No Internet Explorer, Messenger, Outlook Express/Mail)

  • I have the same problem under Window 7 - but have never seen it on my older XP/Vista machines.

  • Have you possibly used CCleaner on this system? It seems to regularly break Sophos for our users. The only solution we have found is to reinstall Sophos (or not use CCleaner).

  • CCleaner has been used - and was on my older (XP and Vista) machines but with no ill effects on Sophos.  That said I can make no correlation between use of CCleaner and apparent loss of priviledges with Windows 7.

I have now set the tamper protection option on my Windows 7 system and this appears (so far) to have prevented recurrence of the problem (fingers crossed).

  • Hi

I too have upgraded from 7 to 9.5 a few months back on my XP machine

While I am not getting 'You Do Not Have Sufficient Privileges' every 3 or 4 days.

I am getting 'You Do Not Have Sufficient Privileges' approximately once every 1 to 2 weeks!!

I do use CCleaner every day, sometimes more often if I have been on the internet a lot, usually at weekends.

I must admit I have not seen a correlation between Sophos falling over and CCleaner usage though!

As per the original poster I have tried all the cures available and they work until the next time!

So I am also interested in a permanent cure for this problem.

  • I've used Sophos for years (version 5, 6, 7, 9) in combination with CCleaner on XP/Vista and 7 and I've never had a problem with Sophos.
