Computer Hangs when saving Word document to offline files

Subject says it all.  I have offline files enabled and when I open an existing MS Word document or try to save a new word document in to the offline folders, the computer crashes.  I'm leary of excluding C:\Windows\CSC form the AV, because our users tend to save the things that they download from the Internet to thier desktop folder that is contained in the offline folders.

I'm running Sophos Version 9.5 on Windows XP SP3 with Office 2007.  I have no issues with other Office document types (XLS, PPT, etc.)

Is there another way to work around this?

  • HI,

Are the clients running with on-write scanning enabled?  If so, does disabling on-write help?

    Also are the files encrypted?

    Thanks,

    Jak

  • Yes.  On-write scanning is enabled.  Disabling the on-write scanning does help.  Thanks!!

Is this a bug with Sophos that needs to be addressed formally with Sophos support?

    The files are not encrypted.

    Thanks again!

  • HI,

I would suggest dropping them an email, hopefully it will be an existing bug with a planned version when it will be fixed.

    Out of interes did excluding:

    \windows\CSC\

    help also?

The security on the files in that directory seems to be quite tight certainly on Win 7.
