Hey Gang,
We don't have any Windows servers, and so are using XP Pro workstations as our SECs. Given the limited number of concurrent connections afforded by these workstations, we've set up additional distributions on Mac OS X servers (using samba shares) to provide updates to our endpoints. These work well for providing updates, but the endpoints (XP Pro) don't seem to be checking into the console. We will have between 100-200 XP and WIn 7 machines in the future, and I'd like to have them show up in the console so that I can efficiently manage changes to policies, etc.
I've heard of folks using OS X servers or linux servers configured as message relays. In this scenario, all the clients would check in with OS X (or linux) server, and that server would then relay the messages to the SEC. The SEC would then only have to maintain two connections: one to sophos for the updates, and the other to the OS X server to receive the relayed messages and populate the distribution.
Have any of you had any experience with this?
Thanks in advance,
M
