7.2 Update to Sophos for Macs Causing Firewall Prompts

Some of our Macs on campus have been prompting end users with the following message:

Do you want the application "SophosManagementAgent" to accept incoming network connections?

The same message, instead with "SophosMessageRouter", is also presented.  I believe these prompts were triggered by an upgrade from Sophos 7.1 to version 7.2.

Have others experienced these prompts?  If so, how are you remediating?  We have several hundred Macs so a sneaker-net approach is not feasible.

  • Hello snoopfrog,

this is the result of a trust issue (as is said in this article) and it looks like all that can be done is clicking Allow (although I can't say if it works if the user is a non-admin).

    • Our end users are not administrators on the Macs, so clicking Allow is not a feasible solution.  Also, we have 500+ Macs which means that an Administrator on each box would need to manually visit each and click Allow.

Any suggestions Sophos Support?  How are your other customers handling this?

Did you call Support? You should do by all means so - even though this forum is monitored - to stress the impact of this issue.

        • I've called in once and the finger was pointed at Apple regarding finding a solution, but I'll give Sophos support another call.  I'll post back if I receive a workable solution.
