Finding Mac's

Hello,

we're testing Sophos Enterprise Console. When i install a Mac client manually, using the mpkg file on the server, it installs without any problem, but I cannot see the mac in the console. But i can ping the mac from the server. I already checked if the firewall is disabled on the Mac. How can I solve this?

  • Hello Jo,

please see here for an explanation and possible problem/solution, or post the results of the NetworkReport here.

  • Thanks, i looked into theReportData.xml and it points to another server (parent). How can I change this?

i searched for the file com.sophos.sau.plist, but couldn't find it. Strange, no?

  • it points to another server (parent)

A "known" server? What does Parent addresses contain - just a name or also an IP? Upon install it should pick up mrinit.conf and cac.pem (both should usually be identical to those in the other CIDs) from Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg\Contents\Packages\SophosRMS.mpkg\Contents\Resources in the OSX CID.

com.sophos.sau.plist can be used for the initial update settings and does not exist by default. It is not related to RMS.

  • Yes and no, I mean, I tried the console for Sophos AV on another pc. I received another (higher) version (Enterprise Console). I installed it on another server. but when i look at the com.sophos.sau.plist on a mac, it points to that old address, although on the new server, it is correct.

  • I managed to change the server address by going on the mac client and change the settings for updating. But it still doesn't show in my list :(

  • To clarify - com.sophos.sau.plist is for updating, not for communication with the console (that's mrinit.conf and the NetworkReport names the management server, not the update location - which need not be the same).

I'd suggest to uninstall Sophos from the Mac (MacHD/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus-pkg) and then install again from the new CID. Then check the NetworkReport again. Note that RMS will not "reconfigure" when you change the update location (or just re-install from the new location).

  • OK, so I uninstalled Sophos, reinstalled and now it seems to be correct (correct address), but it still doens't shown in my list :(

Would it help if I added th xml file?

  • After disabling the firewall from the server (stupid me :/), after a while the mac was seen but with the following error: updating failed because no update source has been specified (0x0000006e). Can I solve this?

  • I saw another strange thing. In the control center, the mac is shown with an address 10.37.129.2, but when I look in the system preferences of the Mac, it shows 192.168.20.104 (which is correct). Even when I do a ping to MC20-104, it answers with 192.168.20.104, which is correct.

And when I do a ping to 10.37.129.2, it doesn't react.

  • You can pre-configure the update location using sophos.com.sau.plist. Once the Mac appears in SEC you should move it to a group from where it will receive its update policy.

If several adapters are active on the client Sophos does not always report the "correct" one.
