Sophos blocking domain logon - 1 PC

Today a user complained of DNS/Domain type issues with domain apps unable to be accessed as usual - as if the user was not logged into the domain.

Various things were tried, but soon the user could not even complete the login process getting stuck at “applying your personal settings”. A domain admin account was able to login fine, as was a local account. (i'm thinking logon bat files now).

I uninstalled Sophos – still the same behaviour.

I detached the PC from the domain, joining "workgroup", then restarting the PC and rejoining the domain and restarting again – then all users could login fine.

So thinking that had been the problem I then reinstalled Sophos 9.5 – BUT the orig problem returned with the 2 users unable to complete logging on to windows XP.

So uninstalled Sophos again, detached from and rejoined the domain – and all logins and domain apps OK again – but no sophos is installed!

Has anyone else seen behavior like this recently?

Cheers,

Stuart

  • Hello Stuart,

did you check the Anti-Virus log and the computer details in SEC for any events? Is it only the two users affected or can other (nonadmin) users log on normally. Also - are the users able to log on to another computer?
