Full Scan & SQL Cluster

Hi All,

I have two SQL servers that are in a cluster.  One of them, SERVERSQL1 keeps abending when the Scheduled full disk scan is running.  It doesn't happen to SERVERSQL2 so I'm confused.

Is there any known issues with SQLserver 2007 & clusters with Sophos?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

When you say it abends, do you mean it blue screens; It is Windows rather than Netware?  Also I assume it's SQL 2005 or SQL 2008?  I'm not aware of SQL 2007.

Could it be the rootkit scan?  Does it crash if you disable rootkit scanning option as part of the scan?

    Regards,
    Jak

  • Hi Jak, thanks for responding.

With regards to SQL version, I'm just going by what our SQL guys tell me... it is SQL 2008.

When it abends, the server is Windows 2008 R2.  It abends, restarts and then leaves a message in the log stating that it abended.

We aren't 100% convinced that its a Sophos problem so we have disabled the scheduled scan for a week to see if the server still abends but it will be turned on again this weekend with verbose logging.  If it does not abend this week but does at the weekend then that suggests that it could be due to Sophos grabbing a file that SQL/the server needs.  But I'm hoping the verbose logging will tell us that.

Funnily enough, the second SQL server in the cluster is using the same Sophos policy but when that is the active LUN things are fine.

If the server abends this weekend I'll try disabling the rootkit scan and see if that improves things.

    Cheers,

    Neil.
