Scheduled Scan & CPU Load

Hi All,

Traditionally, I would schedule all of our full disk scans to occur in the evening, so the user wouldn't get a hit in usage.  Now there is a greening policy whereby all desktops are to be turned off at night so I want to schedule full disk scans during the day.  A typical full disk scan takes about 2 hours.  Is there a way of throttling back the process usage of CPU so that the machine is still usable for the user even if the scheduled scan may take a little longer (for instance, make it low priority)?

Thanks,

Neil.

  • Hi,

    This functionality will arrive for Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 with SAV 9.7, which should be not too far away now seeing as the beta has already finished.

    I wrote a script here:

    which could be used to create a scheduled task on a number of machines.  In theory to run a default scan on the machine you just need to run:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\backgroundscanclient.exe {F86EBCD5-687E-40B1-800D-021062361F6C}

    or
    C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\backgroundscanclient.exe {F86EBCD5-687E-40B1-800D-021062361F6C}

    Maybe you could use the above script to run that and consider working into the command the: "runs when the system is idle" option:
