SEC 4.0 installer wants to install SQL2005 but SQL2008 is already installed

I am upgrading one of my client's SEC3 installation to SEC4.5 but I have to jump through various hoops.  I have run the adviser, printed the instructions and am following the steps.  I upgraded my MSDE 2000 installation to SP4 and then to SQLEXPRESS 2008 - rebooting several times in the process as I also had to update the Windows installer.   I can't upgrade directly from SEC3 to SEC4.5, I have to go through SEC4.0 ... but SEC4.0 wants to first install SQLEXPRESS 2005 ... and then complains that there isn't enough disk space (but there is).

How can I upgrade through SEC4.0 without having to install yet another version of SQLEXPRESS?

Any suggestions?

  • Hmmm!   I have now uninstalled the SQL 2008 installation and installed SQLExpress 2005 SP2.  The Sophos installer still wants to install it again and then tells me that there isn't enough disk space.  What is going on?

    TIA

  • HI,

Before upgrading to SEC 4, you need to get to a position where you have the SQL 2005 Express instance with the SOPHOS3 database attached and the Sophos Management Service can still start.

I assume that the new SQL 2005 instance you installed has the same instance name as that stored in the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos\EE\Management Tools\Database Installer\Instance
