Moving Sophos Enterprise Manager from eDir to AD

We are in the very near future going to be migrating away from Novell eDir and coming onboard with Microsoft AD. I was asked today by my boss the best solution and instructions for moving Sophos from the one enviroment to another. Any information would be helpful.

Some specs we are currently using is Enterprise Console 4.5 with Endpoint clients @ 9.5.

Thank you

  • HI MrMafia

I suspect the console wont open and the management service wont start.

The DB and Certificate files are based on hostnames and IP address, which if you could keep the same might help, but taking the machine off one domain, then to another domain will be the influencing factor.

The definitive answer to your question would be doing this in a test enviroment first.
however - if you cant - see hwta you can use from the below ideas.

I recommend doing a backup of everything, from the DB, certificate registry key and updates.

If you had to start fresh, there are some things which you can do to shorthen the migration time.

You can copy the list of machines, put them in a text file and change it a bit to the sophos format and import them.
Groups and machines would then be done.

You can put the updates (The warehouse folder in the \SophosUpdate\ share) back and it would decrease the amount you have to download and time taken to populate a new SophosUpdate\CID's folder.

Additionaly chances are you will have to reinstall Sophos on the machines so they know the details of the new server they need to report to. This can be done with a script, if you put it in the login it will be done automatically - minimizing more time.

Unfortunetly - You would have to manually create the Policies and configure themad assign them.

Else, speak to sophos about the information you can export in the DB.

If it is too messy - rather start fresh - would give you less to do - less chance of missing something.

    Good luck. :)
