Uninstalled Sophos but left a corrupt user account

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

I uninstalled Sophos's antivirus and installed MSE but recently I've noticed a user account created by Sophos. For some reasons this account can't be seen in "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts" and was only seen when I went to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Parental Controls". The account name is "SophosSAU<computername>0", where <computername> is the name of the computer involved.

EDIT:

From what I've read it appears I can remove it via "cmd" by typing something called net user and enter the account's password. However, the user account is also protected by a password set by Sophos

  • Hi,

The account is used by AutoUpdate and can be deleted if you have removed Sophos AutoUpdate from Add/Remove programs. That being said, can you check that the entry for AutoUpdate has been removed from Add/Remove programs?  As the uninstall of this component should remove the account.  If it doesn't exist:

    Running:

    net user /delete SophosSAU<computername>0

from a command prompt running as admin should delete it, you shouldn't need the password to remove it

    Thanks,

    Jak
