Sophos Antivirus wont open and I have virus attack / threat

Hi Guys can anyone enlighten me please.

My other laptop on switch on gives an virus threat message of

Threat MAL/FakeAvHm-A

The request location contained malicious content and was blocked from downloading.

Any ideas of what it is?, How serious it is? and how I can get sophos AV to start, to sort it out.

    You're saying that you get this message at startup (i.e. before opening a browser)? Reading the description for Mal/FakeAvHm-A I'd say that you have at least some setting in the registry or a program shortcut which tries to access the "dirty" page.

    Do you get it as pop up from the Sophos icon? But you can't open the UI (which version, BTW)?

    You should scan the computer with SAV32CLI (see the article for details).
