Error: You don't have sufficient privileges to run Sophos Endpoint Security

I'm having the same problem as the one here (running Windows 7, 64 bit, Sophos 9.0.5, single-machine)

I try to open Sophos (from the taskbar or start menu)  and get the message (as user with administrative priviledges or as administrator)

"You do not have sufficient privileges to run the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control main application"

My user name and the Administrator appear in the SophosAdmnistrator group.

Windows action center states that Sophos reports it is turned off, but attempting to turn it on has no effect.

SavServices.exe is running with about 112MB.

I ran sav32cli.exe directly from the cmd window -- it ran fine and found no viruses.

This first happened yesterday and I finally resolved it by re-downloading and re-installing Sophos, after which the problem went away. But it has just come back.

Any suggestions for how I can fix this?

  • FWIW, this issue seems to have resolved itself. Sophus is now recognized by Win 7 and I can run Sophus Endpoint Security and Control as normal. I noticed that the problem had gone away soon after downloading a Windows Defender update (1.87.836.0) but I've no idea if there's any connection or what was causing the problem in the first place.
