Tor based applications not blocking browser bundle

Hello,

I've applied a policy to all of the computers on our network under Application Control, it has blocked most of what I've requested, however it's failing to block Tor Browser Bundle. I've also attempted to block Firefox Portable which the browser bundle also launches, and it is still running. I am currently testing it with the latest stable version, Tor Browser Bundle version 1.3.17

Also, Vidalia is also blocked. I noticed that if I try to run the Firefox Portable manually it is blocked, but not when it's launched from Vidalia.

Just curious if there was a new release of the Tor bundle which is causing it to bypass the application control policy or is it possible I've just configured something wrong?

I've tested that the policy is working correctly by adding and removing specific applications which block just fine, such as uTorrent.

Thanks

  • Hi,

In case you don't get any further in the forum on this one I would suggest using:

    https://secure.sophos.com/support/samples/

    and choose "Application control request".

Detail as much as you can, such as versions, download links etc and Support should sort you out.

    Regards,

    Jak

    • Thanks a lot I was unaware there was an option to request application control support from there. I will contact them but would still like people to comment if they're aware of this issue if possible, thanks again!
