Internal Error 2738

Using Endpoint Security and Data Protection version 9.5 on a Windows 7 Professional machine.

I wish to uninstall the program. I have uninstalled the program installed, but Sophos AutoUpdate (version 2.5.6) is listed in Control Panel/Program and Features as a separate program.

I have tried to uninstall Sophos AutoUpdate but continually get an error message: Internal Error 2738. The only option after the error message is displayed is to click "OK" but the (uninstall) program fails to close, it hangs (it also brings down Windows Explorer. It has to be killed through Windows Task Manager

I have rebooted the machine (several times), cleared out temporary files etc. Nothing will allow Sophoso AutoUpdate to uninstall.

Help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

In a command prompt (Start - Run - Cmd) type:

    regsvr32 vbscript.dll

    and then try again.

    Thanks

  • Thank you for the reply.

I ran "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" and tried uninstalling SophosAutoUpdate. This time the following message window appeared

"Warning 25010.An error occurred while running the custom action 'NoUpdateProgress'. Contact your support personnel."

On clicking OK the uninstall continue but the warning message appeared again. On clicking OK a second time the "internal error 738" message appeared again and the uninstall program had to be killed through Windows Task Manger.

  • This article suggests to call Support when encountering error 25010).

As a reminder to all who want (or have) to uninstall - please read the ... how to remove ... article.

Did you try to re-install Sophos? If it works it might then be possible to uninstall (using the correct order).
