Upgrade from SEC 3 to SEC 4.5

Hi all,

I have a sophos enterprise console installed on a 2003 server with a Database on antoher server, it's an SQL 2005 server.

I would like to upgrade this to the 4.5 version with the Sophos console on a new server in Win 2008 32b.

I have migrated the database to 4, by using the setup, and after I migrated the DB to 4.5 b the same way.

On the new 2008 Server, I have installed the SEC 4.5, but I'm unable to connect to the DB because the management service doesn't start.

    Hello Fpo69,

    I'm not sure I understand you correctly. So you started with SEC 3.x with a remote database (SQL 2005). And then you upgraded this installation to 4.5 and now want to use this database with a newly installed SEC 4.5 on a new server?

    If so - did you export/import the necessary registry keys. Assuming you did a custom install - did this complete or did you encounter an error?

    Here are the steps I used to migrate

    1. I have stopped the old SEC 3.1 server and backed up the Certification manager & EE registry keys

    2. On the SQL Server, I have upgraded the DB to 4, and after to 4.5.

    3. On the new server I have installed the SEC 4.5 and imported the certification manager keys

    I didn't have any poblem during the installation, but in the evenlog I have an error and the management service doesn't start

    YEs i want to use the SOPHOS45 DB but it is empty

    What steps did you perform - sounds like something went wrong. But your SEC 3.1 database should be unharmed and the migration can be reattempted.

    I have uninstalled and run the upgrade again.

    Now it works correctly
