Windows 2008, Novell Client and Sophos

Hello

I have a situation with Sophos installed on a Windows 2008 R2 machine which has Novell Client 2sp1 installed.

Sophos does not seem to be working on this machine until novell client is disabled.

Our network is a big network with over 25,000 machines which is both a Microsoft and Novell Network.

For sophos to be installed on clients based on the network we have,, network client has to be disable which is impossible.

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue in such a way both Microsoft and Novell Network does not get interrupted???

Till now what I have understood if I not mistaken is that Sophos does have some issues with Windows 2008 R2 and I have seen some forums stating that there are issues of Sophos not able to perform properly with Novell Client.

To be more accurate... Enterprise Console installed on Windows 2008 R2 with Novell Client 2sp1 doesnt seem to be working.

Can someone advice and help in solving t his issue?

Thank you

  • Hi Tester

    Can you define 'not working'?

Does Sophos install, but does not update

Or does it not install at all

Or does it install but not become active?

I suspect you mean it does not update, (There should be a cross on the shield)
If it isnt updating, the update log will be the first place to troubleshoot.

Open Sophos and navigate to 'View Updating log' the last entries are at the top.

This might be DNS related or account related.

If you can reply with what you see in the log file, we might be able to assist further.

  • Hi

    This is what happens...

When asked to enter user credentials,,, this is the error msg.

'Timeout while attempting to connect to the specified address. There may be a problem with the network.'

    http://esp.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/111428.html

And once credentials are entered, it just times out not allowing to connect to the Sophos servers.

But once Novell Client is uninstalled, [Novell Client 2sp1],, there is no issue at all.

Once user credentials are entered, it gets connected and everything works fine.

Is there a way to have Novell Client on the machine and get connected to Sophos servers without timeout??

Uninstalling Novell Client is going to be impossible on our network.

    Thanks

  • Hi

  • You are saying it asks for user credentials...

Are you installing from a CID/distribution share or are you using the Home/Standalone Installer (no RMS)?

It sounds as you are using the Standalone Installer since this is the only way I have seen Sophos asking for 'user credentials'.

NOVELL doesn't provide a x64 client, so I assume you are running the x86 version. Hopefully.

  • Update......

Looks like this issue occurs when Sophos is installed on a VMWare system.

But the issue of Sophos not responding with Novell Client installed does not happen when installed on a physical machine.

It might be something with Sophos and VMWare.

As of now,,, ill close this forum.

Thank you all for your help.
