End of life for v7. Moving Sophos to a new server?

Hello,

Faced with end-of-life for Sophos 7, I'm thinking of installing the new version on a fresh server.  The upgrade advisor is telling me that the upgrade may impact on a critical database - and I'd rather not!

So if I simply uninstall Sophos Enterprise (3.1.0.2476) on the old server and start a fresh installation elsewhere... will all the clients (7.6.21) connect to it and continue functioning?  I'd assume I'll just have to do 'find new computers' and re-group them?

Thanks,

Mark

  • Hello Mark,

assuming you assign the same name/IP to the new one it might work, but please see If the clients find and connect to the new management server, then you won't need Find computers as they're already reporting to SEC.

  • Thanks, Christian.

I'll read through that.  I won't be able to transfer the IP/Name to the new Sophos server - as it's installed alongside a business critical application.  This is a small place and we had many applications tangled up on the same physical servers until we began with virtualisation.

    Thanks again,

This is no problem as it is not necessary. Just make sure you use the same certificates. And BTW: you don't need to uninstall the old management server before installing the new one. They can live side by side.
