Sophos is nagging all the users to nag me!

OK, so who's bright idea :smileyindifferent: was it to pop-up a message on all the desktops (140 PCs in my case, for 300 users), telling everyone to contact me because I have to upgrade the AV by the end of March??  I already knew that, thanks.

Is it going to pop-up every time someone logs on during the next 10 weeks?

Mark

  • Hi Mark,

Apologies if this is causing you some grief, but that was kind of the idea!

We have been telling everyone that SAV 7 is retiring for ages, however, we know that not everyone gets the message, for this reason we introduced the "admin only" and "end user" pop up messages so that the people actually using the product would be made aware.

If you already knew about the retirement then you also had an opportunity to disable the messages for end users, this is why we did the "admin only" messages first.

    Regards,

    Darren.

How often are the notification messages going to appear?

    • On machines running any of the following products: EM Library (including EM Library Console), Enterprise Console 3, Sophos Control Center 2:
      • From the release of Sophos Anti-Virus v7.6.21 (24th November 2010): once per day
    • On client machines/ end users:
      • From the 10th January: once until the end of January
      • From the 31st January: 4 times (once per week during Feb)
      • From the 28th February: 4 times until the 11th March (i.e. twice as often as in Feb)
      • From the 14th March onwards: every day

This article also holds the clue on how to conveniently disable the notification (hint: "DisableEndOfLifeMessaging"=1)

  • OK, thanks for that.  I will turn the messages off.

To be honest, I'm not sure that the idea of a pop-up which would cause dozens/hundreds/thousands of random users to worry and/or phone Tech Support was very thoroughly thought through.
