Monitoring and control every SAV proceses

Hello Guys,

just a quick question... Could I control and (for example) re-prioritize single processes of SAV? For example, I would like to know if I can adjust the amount of resources used to run the RootKit component.

Thanks.

  • I'm afraid not, as least as far as I'm aware.  All scanning is performed by the savservice process.   It is therefore not easy to identify which thread is performing which type of scan.  I have been told that "background scanning" is something Sophos are looking to introduce in the not too distant future as it's becoming more and more difficult to choose a time to run a scheduled scan especially when trying to save power overnight.

    As mentioned in this post:

    calling:

    BackgroundScanClient.exe {F86EBCD5-687E-40B1-800D-021062361F6C}

    from your own scheduled task on each machine and utilize some of the more advanced scheduling options in the newer operating systems could be interesting, especially with option such as:

    "Wake the computer to run this task"

    "Start the task only if the computer is only on AC power"

    "Start the task only if the computer is idle for X minutes".

       "Stop if the computer ceases to become idle"

       "Restart if the idle state resumes"

    This might help to add some intelligence into when the scan is run rather than trying to second guess the uptime and usage of the machine.

    I hope that gives a few options,

    Jak
