Sophos Removal from Home Computer - XP

I work for a global company and we were granted access to download and install sophos on our personal home computers. I now wish to uninstall it however it says I do not have the correct permissions. I know this isnt' a new story to anyone on here so could someone please provide me with a straightforward easy to understand answer how to uninstall this **bleep** thing...***frustrated***

  • Hello MotoMom19700,

you should contact your company's IT staff first - it is possible that a configuration has been applied to the "download" and/or that your installation is managed (apart from the fact that according to the license agreement end-users have to be supported by the site's IT staff).

  • Our IT staff does not support the product on home PC's even though they offered it to us. GRRR

I understand there may be reasons not to uninstall it but truly it should be able to be uninstalled at the discretion of the home user, otherwise it is like an unauthorized house guest who I have asked to leave but won't.

Please provide me with the necessary tools to get it off my machine so I don't have to do a complete reformat.

  • Just curious - any particular reason for uninstall or issues (other than that you don't get support)?
Without customization of the install or policies applied the user who has installed it should be able to uninstall without any tricks. But it's not your fault. So - when you open the GUI, is there a section "Tamper protection" and is "Authenticate user" active and the other two links grey? If you open "View product information" are your current user rights "Sophos Administrator"? BTW - which flavour of XP, Pro or Home? Your answers will help to help you.

  • I want to get rid of it as it couldn't fully remove a particular virus and plus I had no control over it. Regardless, I am going to start tweeting how much I dislike it if I don't get rid of it soon.

    It feels like an intruder!

My OS is Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3.

Here are the windows I see....and yes I am the administrator.

I have access to tamper protection window but don't know what to put in there.

    Any other suggestions.
