Web-Cache: Data disk filling up by httpout-file

Hey Guys,

I'm facing a problem with the Sophos UTM Web Protection. The installed firmware is 9.508-10, but the problem occured in the past as well.

The Data Disk is filling up to a 100% if I do not clear the web-cache manually. The interessting thing is, the the web-cache is disabled :/

I read some discussions/threads, but I found no solution.

What I found out so far is, that the file "httpout" is the culprit. It's located under /var/storage/chroot-http/var/tmp

The filesize is about 16 GB at the moment.

Does anyone now, what the problem could be, or if it is a bug? Or better to open a sophos-support-ticket?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Benjamin,

Can you PM me the file to investigate. Alongside, do you see any coredumps, in /var/storage/cores for the HTTPProxy?

  • Hi Sachin,

thanks for your help. In the cores-folder, there are just the following files: awed.23800, cssd.31038, cssd.6640, postgres.23186
So I think no one is related to the HTTPProxy.

I'm not able to download the httpout-file. When I try to download it via scp (putty), I just can access the sophos with the loginuser and this user has no permission to access the file and I don't want to change the permission, if not needed or there is a workaround.

Can you tell me, whats the best and easiest way to download that file?

    best regards!

  • In that case, you need a root access to the shell. I will suggest you raise a case with support team if you have a subscribed license and let us know the case#.

  • Dear Sachin,

to get root access is no problem, but first I have to login with the loginuser and afterwards I can get root-access.
When I try a tool like pscp (the putty scp tool), I just can access the firewall with the loginuser and not with the root-user. But the loginuser has no rights on the specific file.

If I try the scp command while logged in as root (firewall), it asks me again for the root-password but I get the message: Permission denied, please try again

Then it asks again for the root-password.

This is the command I used: scp root@firewall-ip:/var/storage/chroot-http/var/tmp/httpout C:\Temp

    Any suggesion befor I open a support-case?

    best regards
