POP3 is for retrieving email and SMTP is for transmitting so realistically you would use both in environments where you want both send and receive to be secured.

Hi Jalil, there are quite good details on how to set it up from the contextual help button at the top right when you're looking at a module on the UTM. This is a very good basis to start setting up from [:)]
Also, see the excellent post stickied at the top of this forum. It describes using the SMTP Proxy for an external mail server for a domain that you control - a better solution than POP3. It also describes using encryption, but that's not necessary.
