SMTP Protection vs POP3 Protection?

In which cases should you use SMTP or POP3 protection?

Users use Outlook to access an External Email Server and Web Browser to access Gmail, Hotmail.

  • Also, see the excellent post stickied at the top of this forum. It describes using the SMTP Proxy for an external mail server for a domain that you control - a better solution than POP3.  It also describes using encryption, but that's not necessary.
