Upgrade UTM 220 to SG230

Hi.

 

I got 2x UTM 220 configured in HA cluster.

We plan to get 2x SG230 and replace our existing 2x UTM 220.

 

I know we can restore our backups to the newer SG230, I have done this on stand-alone models and it works well.

 

Questions:

 

Question 1: Cut-Over

However, how should I start with 2x SG230? The devices are located off-site.

Should I configure 2x SG230 on an HA cluster before restoring the UTM 220 backup on the master node ?

or do I just restore the backup on 1x SG230 and connect the 2nd SG230 and system will automatically detect the second node fresh from the box (no configuration) ?

 

 

Question 2:

If I remove the secondary node (UTM220) and replace it with an SG230 will the HA Cluster automatically configure it a the new secondary node ? 

Do I need to do anything on the SG230 before connecting it to the UTM 220 master node?

How about the licenses?

    Hallo Paul,

    I think it is not possible to do the change without an interruption.

    I would proceed as follows:

    In your office the restore the backup of the sg220 in one sg230 (master)

    Check whether everything is plausible. Then connect the second sg230.

    Which should then bring itself to the position of the master sg 230.

    If not find the error.

    If yes, then test: swivel boot etc. then rollout to the distant location.

    Now let the sg220 going out of service and then the sg230 put into operation and after successful check bring the second unit in operation.

    Then check again the function.

    In the worth case you have the old sg220 in reserve.

    In my opinion the licence is fixed to the device by  the serial number.

    It seems no problem with the backups and the new sg230, i think.  But you will know it after the first step.

    After I restore the backup on one SG230 (master).

    When I connect the 2nd SG230 (slave) will the master auto detect and join the slave to the cluster automatically? Do I need to do anything on the slave?

    Hi Paul,

    You just need all the configurations completed on the MASTER, SLAVE will synchronize the needed information from MASTER.
