eth0 and eth3 swapped and unusual / wrong IP (192.168.2.100) on new SG UTM

Hi,

I currently install a brand new sg115. This model seems to have swapped eth0 and eth3 interfaces.

For first configuration I have to connect the lan cable to eth3 (no network link on eth0) an then I can access the 192.168.2.100 (instead of the usual 192.168.0.1). After running through the wizard the dashboard tells me that eth0 is up with 192.168.2.100 while the only cable which is plugged in is conntected to eth3 and the eth3 lamp is lit.

What I tried:

  * Looking for a possibility to change the interface assigning

  * resetting to factory defaults

Any idea what to do? Thanks!

  • Hallo Hannes and welcome to the UTM Community!

Very strange - this should not happen!  Since this is a new unit, I would have it replaced with an RMA if Sophos Support can't fix it remotely.  Please let us know your result.

  • Thanks Bob!

We're waiting for an answer since two days from Sophos. All of them are probably fixing home office issues at the moment :-)

I have configured a lot of Sophos UTMs but none of them had "192.168.2.100" as default IP address. All had "192.168.0.1" even the latest SG which arrived yesterday.

I also have found instructions how to configure this behaviour (swapping of interfaces).

So I suspect that this is not a really new Firewall but a used one which was misconfigured before.

  • All new software iso imaged aplliances had suggested IPs of 192.168.2.100 initial. so, yes, it could be this device was reinstalled with a software iso before...

  • Finally I got an answer.

Yes, this Sophos has the wrong OS

    Download ISO from:  www.sophos.com/.../utm-downloads.aspx

Create a bootable USB stick or DVD and reinstall the UTM.

The added howto suggests to use "rufus", a free tool for creating bootable USB drives. At VirusTotal 4 engines report AddWare in this tool so I did the usual dd-voodoo instead.

    Thanks for the help!
